Abstract: Research is part of Tri Dharma College and become one of the obligatory duties for a lecturer. Research is also a measure of the performance of a lecturer in carrying out its responsibilities. The objectives of this research are: (1) To know the performance of University Nusa Cendana lecturers in conducting national competition research, (2) to know motivation and orientation of lecturer in conducting research, (3) to analyze and describe factors affecting the performance of University Nusa Cendana lecturer’s in conducting national competition research, and (4) Produce ideal modeling to improve lecturer’s performance in the implementation of national competition. This study found that: The performance of University Nusa Cendana lecturers in the implementation of national competition research has increased in terms of quantity of lecturers involved, from 17% in 2014 to 37% in 2015 and the last 55% in 2016; The motivation of lecturers in conducting the research is expected in the demands of competence of personality, institutional demands, environmental demands and economic demands; Factors affecting the lecturer’s performance include the age of the researcher who correlates with the length of the researcher, the research experience, the aspect of rank, the background of expertise, the demands of resource linkage, the institutional policy, the increasing availability of funding, available infrastructure such as laboratories and others and the working environment That is conducive; And the resulting model is the approach or pattern of implementation of lecturer performance improvement management in the implementation of national competition research activities. Based on the results obtained, it is advisable to various parties to pay attention to the role and function so that national competition research activities can continue to increase and valuable for the development of science and technology.
